"Jeep vehicles made their original debut in 1941 for military duty, and have built their reputation with more than 65 years as the world's benchmark for off-road capability and versatility for civilian and military vehicles."
"The new Jeep J8 marks the brand's return to vehicle production for military and civilian government use - the same capability that makes the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited famous also makes the Jeep J8 a truly multipurpose vehicle."
Thomas Hausch, Vice President - International Sales, Chrysler LLC.
Introducing the Jeep J8 Multi-Purpose Vehicle
Though a brand-new vehicle featuring the latest design and technology, the Jeep J8 marks the return of an icon and the brand’s renewed commitment to the defence community with the highest quality 4x4 vehicles available today.
The engineers at the company’s design centre in Michigan have developed the model from the new generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, launched in 2007. Using this model as their starting point, they increased its capability and versatility to produce a car suitable for military use.
The frame was reinforced for increased ruggedness and durability, as well as allowing payloads of up to 1160kg. Components such as axles, brakes and suspension were designed and tooled specifically for more demanding military and civilian government use.
A leaf-spring suspension system was fitted in the rear, while the advanced technology employed in the J8’s Command-Trac four-wheel drive system that enables maximum performance in both on- and off-road conditions is at the heart of the new vehicle, endowing it with traction, speed and a low centre of gravity that puts it at the top of the segment.
Optimal Flexibility
While not designed for frontline combat operations, the Jeep J8 can be fully armoured to B6 standards and excels in a variety of roles including: Light Patrol Vehicle, Troop & Cargo Carrier, Ambulance & Communications Vehicle, while also making it suitable for civilian government applications.
